He said I’m the wifey type; he plans to marry me
I will be the first to admit that men lay compliments and praise on thick even when they don’t have to. Males are very impulsive, and if you do not know how to read their level of hyperbole, you can set yourself up for heartbreak. Every highly contested overtime game is, “the greatest game ever,” every new Jay-Z verse is, “probably the best since Blueprint,” and every girl who makes him cum in under five minutes is, “the best I’ve ever had!” These men are not lying to themselves; it’s the excitement of the moment that makes that experience feel like it really is the greatest. Every man is still a little kid inside, and they all remember what their best Christmas present was from when they were kids. However, you can’t ask them when they’re six years old, you have to ask them at seventeen because only then can they look back and compare.
The same thing goes for judging women. Every man has met a girl who he thought was unbelievably funny, sexy, and intelligent. He had to tell everyone about her, introduce her to the world, and pillow talk her ear off about how special she was. You’re going to get gassed by his words and actions. You want desperately to feel like you’re different from the rest of these women, and his words are sweet validation, but slow down. You have to keep a ‘wait and see’ attitude, or you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Most women tend to be a Super Nintendo. It was the best gift ever, then a few years later he got that PlayStation under the tree, and it not only replaced that SNES as the best Christmas gift, it stayed there. If a man says you are the type he could marry, it’s a great compliment, but understand where it’s coming from. Is the man who’s saying this a person you’ve known for a while and has truly experienced the various sides of your personality, or is this coming from a guy who’s known you for a short while and is infatuated by your newness?
Men who drop the L-bomb after sex or propose marriage with no ring after something great happens are caught up in the moment. Don’t get sucked into male impulse and start picking out wedding dresses, updating Facebook statuses, and telling your girlfriends he’s the one. You’re falling for him because he’s giving you the level of love you’ve been searching for, but you have to use common sense. So many women are confused when a man leaves her or starts to distance himself after the honeymoon period[14]. These women look back to the good times when he called her perfect and claimed that she was a blessing. To have someone reject you and start dating another woman after being told how you were his soul mate hurts, but don’t be bitter, understand his thinking. Not every man is lying to you when he proclaims your greatness or tells you you’re different.
